About
Dr. Chawla is one of the leading interventional pulmonologists, with over 38 years of experience. He is a pioneer in the field and has performed a high number of endobronchial glue placement procedures for the management of haemoptysis in India. He is also a pioneer in twin-bronchoscopy technique for patients with diffuse parenchymal lung disease (DPLD).
Dr. Chawla was honoured with an Appreciation Award by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India. He has previously served as Chair of the Rare Lung, Airway and Pleural Disorders Section of the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP).
Dr. Rakesh Chawla specialises in Asthma, ILD, COPD, sleep disorders, smoking cessation, lung cancer & tuberculosis. His clinical expertise includes advanced interventional procedures such as rigid and flexible bronchoscopy, medical thoracoscopy, airway stenting and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).
He has contributed to national and international medical journals and regularly participates in conferences and workshops in India and abroad, keeping abreast of advancements in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He has authored 4 book chapters, with 94 publications. (National & International Journals). He has authored 9 National Guidelines. He is the lead author of NCCP/ICS Guideline on thoracoscopy practices in India (published 2024). Known for his evidence-based approach and commitment to compassionate care, Dr. Rakesh focuses on providing comprehensive management for patients with complex respiratory conditions.
